     Spirit of Lagos

Between 2007 and 2011, The Fashola Administration had been doing a lot of infrastructural development in Lagos State but realized that Lagosians were not fully embracing the improved physical changes to the city. TBWA CONCEPT was invited to take a stab at the challenge. We realized that changing the infrastructural landscape of the city was just one half of the solution. What we really needed to do was change the way people think about Lagos. Our creative idea was to form a movement called the Spirit of Lagos, under which we inspire Lagosians to take ownership and responsibility in transforming Lagos and ensuring the legacy continues. The campaign currently runs across TV, radio, print, experiential, PR and digital media. See the campaign HERE

So far the campaign has generated a significant level of awareness given the nature of the message and challenge to the public to essentially stop, review and change their ways. This awareness has been converted to interest as witnessed in the selfless work being championed by those who exemplify the Spirit of Lagos in their communities. Spirit of Lagos has also steadily grown communities, both virtual and real as the momentum builds up.

     Growth Story GLO Text4Millions

In a country where Telecomms promotions are the order of the day, the challenge was how to catch audience attention with a fresh and engaging idea.

Nigerians have a GET RICH QUICK OR DIE TRYING mentality so we decided to build our idea around this insight by inviting people to unlock their own riches by breaking into the Glo Prize Vault simply by sending a short code with their mobile phones.

By the end of the campaign over 42 million subscribers participated. See the campaign HERE

About TBWAKG

Once every year, we run a 6-month intensive creative apprenticeship program called the TBWAKG that moulds young talented people into creative geniuses...and the cool thing is you get paid in the process!

Selected participants would undergo grueling practical training courses where top advertising gurus will challenge you to think and do. Courses will cover areas such as photography, copywriting, digital campaign development, film production and several other areas.

TBWAKG 2013 COURSE OUTLINE

KG 101: Begin with the Idea

In today's world, communication projects need to get across a consistent message in any and all media that can possibly be employed. Like no other time in our industry, a great idea must emerge before great work can be created. It's about solving a communication problem first and then finding the appropriate media to give the idea maximum impact.

KG 102: The basics of Photography

Camera controls. Lighting. Composition. The rule of thirds. Color. Temperature. Record a decisive moment or make one. This explores techniques in using the digital camera as a tool in visual exploration.

KG 103: Packaging the Idea

Before before, ideas were presented first as "scamps," quick marker sketches tacked or taped on a wall, then explained to the client so they could understand what the sketches represented. Nowadays, you will likely present a complete Photoshop comp digitally, or you'll have a brief statement of the idea showcased in a PowerPoint or Keynote presentation. This course will take you through a whole bunch of presentation formats such as Prezi, Powerpoint and Keynote.

KG 104: Video Storytelling

An introduction to story-telling with motion, sound and time.

KG 105: Digital Imaging

A comprehensive introduction to two of the tools you'll need to bring your ideas to life. You'll learn how to perform magic using the digital camera and Adobe Photoshop.

KG 106: The art of storytelling

The art of storytelling is a crucial skill. You will learn about plot development, story and character arcs, telling stories not only in multiple installments, but in multiple mediums (blogs, point of view, transitions, voice, persuasion).

KG 107: Thinking Strategically

Understanding the importance of strategic thinking and how it fuels the creative process. In this course, you'll learn how to make all creative ideas smart and strategically sound. You'll learn the process of a strategic creative. You'll learn how to approach the creative research process. You'll learn how to uncover "insights" that will lead to writing a creative strategy statement. You'll learn to formulate an ideal communications strategy. You'll learn about the creative brief. And ultimately, you'll develop solutions as a creative team based on your own strategies.

KG 108: The art of typography.

A solid foundation in the techniques of type design as well as the history behind the type faces and the times that created them.

KG 109: Wordsmithing

Mastering the craft of writing. Embrace the new relevance of long copy in the online world as you tackle grammar and punctuation.

KG 110: Interactive Media Production

This introduces vector animation and sync to sound techniques. Digital illustration, photo manipulation, and desk-top publishing will be integrated into complex multimedia projects.

KG 111: Improve/Standup Comedy

Presence, gumption, and the ability to think on your feet make for a stellar comedian. And an excellent presenter and public speaker. Loose your stage fright and get your comic on.

KG 112: Script Writing

(Radio, TV, Web Spot) Writing for visual and audio media requires specific skills and a fluency in the idiosyncrasies of each medium. Learn how to write scripts that exploit the narrative potential of these environments. Content strategy: learning how to write scripts for different media and where it is most impactful.

KG 113: Digital Campaigns

This course will show you how an idea can be expressed across multiple online platforms in a concerted effort to reach and connect with users, regardless of digital media.

KG 114: Social Media

This course will introduce students to the use of social media for the purposes of brand communication and promotion.

KG 115: Product Creation

As the media landscape has "morphed," so has the role of the ad agency. Today's leading shops not only promote products, they come up with product ideas and then develop them. This is a intro into the process.

KG 116: It's a Mobile World

Learn to explore ways to tap the enormous power of mobile marketing.

KG 117: Basking in the Limelight

A crash course on the importance of creative awards such as LAIF, Cannes, CLIO, D&AD, One Show. What to enter. How to enter. And why you should enter.

Our Culture

Our philosophy has always been based on the premise that middle of the road gets you nowhere..except maybe the Accident & Emergency Room.

Mediocre work always leaves one with a sense of what might have been and we have always believed that mediocrity is what slowly kills the spirit of an agency..

So before you know it, average has become your benchmark.

However, at TBWACONCEPT we believe that your work should always be Relevant but Unexpected.

Relevance will ensure that it is on Strategy. The unexpected part will ensure the consumer takes the time to pay Attention.

This unexpectedness also helps you build Memorable and Iconic brands because you have to break the rules of the category.
